Senator Tom Killion (R – Chester and Delaware) today announced that $2 million in grants have been awarded at his request to Aston Township, Nether Providence Township and the Kennett Library. The grants were awarded as part of Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).
“These projects will have a direct, positive impact on the lives of the residents in their respective communities,” said Killion. “I am grateful to Gov. Tom Wolf and his administration for his support for these three worthy initiatives.”
Aston Township, Delaware County will receive $500,000 for construction of a public works facility in the municipality. The new facility will include administrative offices, a truck shop, equipment storage building and salt barn. The new facility will enable Aston Township to more efficiently and effectively provide necessary collection of trash and recycling, general parks services, storm sewers and road maintenance, leaf collection and snow removal.
Nether Providence Township, Delaware County will receive $500,000 for its redevelopment of the former Summit School property. The township plans to install an amphitheater for cultural, civic, and educational community activities, as well as a snack bar and restroom facility. Parking lots will be reconfigured at the site. The second phase of the project includes active recreation facilities, including a baseball field, basketball courts and play area.
Kennett Library in Chester County will receive $1 million towards the construction of a new library building. The conceived new building will be a two-story, 25,000 square foot facility with a 110-seat auditorium, two 30-seat classrooms, four tutoring rooms, a large multipurpose room, group and quiet study rooms. It will be situated on property that combines three contiguous parcels at the corner of State and Willow streets in downtown Kennett Square.
These grants are in addition to a $1.5 million state RACP grant to the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art secured by Senator Killion and Representative Steven Barrar earlier this year as part of a $13 million capital improvement project undertaken by the conservancy.
RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.
