Senator Tom Killion praised Governor Wolf’s PAsmart initiative announcement of over $8.7 million in grants to increase the availability of computer science classes for students and teacher training.
The Chester Upland Charter School, Chester Upland School District, Chichester School District, Garnet Valley School District, Ridley School District, Wallingford-Swarthmore School District and Delaware County Technical High Schools will all benefit from this educational investment.
“I want to thank Governor Wolf and Education Secretary Pedro Rivera for this increase in funding for computer science and STEM education,” said Killion. “Within the next few years, over 70% of new jobs in Pennsylvania will require employees to use a computer. This funding will give our educators the necessary tools to prepare our students to enter the workforce with confidence,” he added.
Each school will receive $35,000 through this grant. With this funding, Pennsylvania ranks second in the nation for investments made in K-12 STEM and computer science.
