Senator Tom Killion (R-Chester and Delaware) and Penn State, ’79 released the following statement regarding the Big Ten Conference’s decision to play football this fall:
“I strongly support the Big Ten Conference’s decision to play football and other sports this fall. As I noted in my letter to the Chester County Health Director, county commissioners and Delaware County Council on Monday, we are past the point of crisis in the Commonwealth. New infections, hospitalizations and deaths have declined dramatically since the spring peak of the pandemic.
“Just as I trust our locally elected school boards to make the best decisions for their communities, I trust Penn State President Eric Barron and the leaders of the other conference schools to make decisions for their institutions regarding the resumption of athletics.
“The last six months have demonstrated we can safely go about much of our lives. Sports are an integral part of our community, economy and the lives of those who play them. As we seek to reclaim a measure of normalcy in these challenging times, I am grateful the call to “let them play” has been affirmatively answered by the Big Ten, and I look forward to cheering for the Nittany Lions in the weeks to come.”
