Makes a Big Mac© and meets with crewmembers and owners
Working in a McDonald’s kitchen is not a typical job for a state senator, but that’s what Senator Tom Killion did Wednesday. Killion (R-Chester & Delaware), visited the McDonald’s on High Street in West Goshen where he learned how to make a Big Mac©, got a tour of the restaurant, and enjoyed lunch with owners Rich and Alyssa Doane.

“It was a terrific behind-the-scenes experience,” said Killion. “Restaurants like the one I visited provide good jobs with real opportunities for advancement and growth and are critical to our economy.”
Doane Family Enterprises owns and operates 15 McDonald’s Restaurants in Chester and Delaware Counties. During his visit, Senator Killion learned about initiatives like the Archways to Opportunity program, which offers tuition assistance and other education programs designed to help McDonald’s employees succeed. Doane Family Enterprises has awarded $120,000 in tuition assistance to their employees in 2019.
“As small business owners, we welcome the opportunity to invite community leaders like Senator Killion into our restaurants to meet our staff, see our day-to-day operations, and learn how we positively impact the communities where we live and work,” said Alyssa Doane.
“The opportunities for advancement with the brand are endless. My dad started as a crewperson and has been with the system for over 40 years. In fact, many owner/operators began as crewpeople,” said Doane who has followed in her father’s footsteps was recently approved as McDonald’s owner/operator.
“Small businesses prosper when employees are happy and respected,” said Killion. “The Doanes are invested in the personal success of their team members, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to visit their store.”
