Two organizations in the 9th Senatorial District have been awarded almost $200,000 in state funding through the Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program to rehabilitate several sites, according to Senator Tom Killion (R-9).
Williamson College of Trades received $100,000 for window restoration on Rowan Hall, the college’s main building designed by Frank Furness. The project will remove circa-1985 windows and replace them with new, period-correct windows. Contractors will also replace the rotting wood surrounding the interior and exterior trim, taking care to reproduce the original profiles.
The Rose Valley Centennial Foundation was awarded $99,788 to make improvements to the Thunderbird Lodge, a building of historical and architectural significance in the community of Rose Valley.
“These grants are vital to rehabilitating and restoring local landmarks,” Killion said. “They also help to promote economic development and improve our communities.”
Killion said the funding comes from the Commonwealth’s Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund. This fund was established by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1993 using revenue from the voter-approved sale of bonds and from a portion of the state realty transfer tax.
Keystone Historic Preservation Grants, which require a 50/50 cash match, are available for the preservation, restoration and/or rehabilitation of historic resources listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The grants are administered on a competitive basis.
