Senator Tom Killion, in conjunction with officials from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) and Penn State Brandywine, will hold a Student Debt Seminar from 6:30 to 8:00pm next Thursday, June 6th at the Student Union Building on the Penn State Brandywine Campus in Media, Delaware County.
“Student debt is crushing our young people,” said Killion. “Unable to purchase a home or feeling like you must defer starting a family because of student debt is extremely discouraging. We want to make sure college students and recent grads know the options and strategies that are available to them to make the burden of debt easier to bear.”
Killion will be joined by experts from PHEAA and Penn State Brandywine at the seminar, which is free and open to the public.
Killion cited a CNBC study which noted Pennsylvanians carry, on average, almost $36,000 in student debt, the second largest burden in the nation, behind only New Hampshire.
“Buying a home and starting a family is the foundation of the American Dream. Policymakers, colleges and universities, lenders, and most important, students and their families need to work together to ensure pursuit of a college degree doesn’t prevent recent and future grads from pursuing other significant life goals.”
