Senator Tom Killion will now lead a committee that oversees economic development in the state.
Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati announced on Monday that Killion will serve as chair of the Senate’s Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee. The chairmanship of this committee became vacant when recent Senate retirements triggered changes that led to six committees being chaired by new Senators.
The Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee coordinates legislation and initiatives to spur job creation, promote tourism, protect local communities and monitor the state’s gaming industry.
“This committee plays a key role in the vibrancy of Pennsylvania’s economy and communities,” said Killion. “I thank Senator Scarnati for this appointment, and I very much look forward to enhancing our state’s quality of life as the chair of the committee.” He added.
Killion’s appointment to this committee means he will be leaving his post as chair of the Senate’s Urban Affairs and Housing Committee.
In March, Killion moved his Senate Bill 30, which increases affordable housing in the state through a tax credit program, out of this committee. The legislation is now being considered by the full Senate.
Killion said, “I will miss working on affordable housing and related topics as chair of the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee, but I remain fully committed to these issues. I’ll work to make sure the Economic Development Committee continues to have a positive impact on job growth and our state’s families.”
